STRUCTURE OF MQA

BOARDS

Boards are responsible for approving or denying licensure applicants, reviewing and approving continuing education

courses and providers, promulgating administrative rules authorized by statute, determining probable cause, and

disciplining licensees found to be in violation of applicable laws. MQA supports the Governor’s appointment of

qualified representatives and appropriate people to serve on 22 regulatory boards comprising 180 professional and

lay persons.

COUNCILS

Six councils serve in an advisory capacity to either

the Department or a board under which they serve in

regulating their respective profession. Council members

are appointed by the State Surgeon General.*

INTERESTED IN AN APPOINTMENT TO A BOARD OR COUNCIL?

MQA Boards conduct in-person meetings in locations throughout the state at various predetermined dates during

the year. Each meeting is scheduled for one or two days. In addition, a Board can meet through teleconferencing or

by other technological means as often as necessary to complete its business. Board members are volunteers, but

may be eligible to be reimbursed for travel expenses and a $50 per diem.

*In the 2016 Legislative Session, legislation was passed which eliminates the Council on Certified Nursing

Assistants and the Advisory Council of Medical Physicists, effective July 1, 2016.
