After an initial license is issued, a health care practitioner or facility may choose to upgrade a license to reflect greater qualifications. For
example, a hearing aid specialist trainee (AST) may upgrade to become a hearing aid specialist after completing additional education. During
the 2014-2015 fiscal year, MQA assisted 838 applicants with upgrading health care practitioner and facility licenses.
