One of MQA’s core business functions is ensuring the safety of the citizens and visitors of Florida through the enforcement of the regulatory
laws and rules for health care practitioners. MQA investigators follow up on thousands of complaints against licensed health care providers
and visit nearly 30,000 locations where health care is being practiced to check for violations. The Department continues to implement
the 2014 change in the law governing the practice of massage therapy which required background screening for massage therapists and
massage therapy establishment owners. This resulted in a sharp increase in complaints, but approximately 40,000 massage therapists and
massage therapy establishment owners have successfully complied with the new requirements.
